Workbench Upgrades
Type Base Building / Crafting
Location Player Outposts
Requirements Base ownership, workbench built in outpost
Rewards Higher crafting tiers, access to advanced recipes

Overview

Workbench Upgrades are base improvements built in player-owned outposts that raise the crafting level of the base. Each upgrade unlocks more advanced crafting recipes across all workbench types (General, Gunsmith, Ammo Press, Chemical Station, Garage). There are three upgrade tiers, each requiring progressively rarer materials.

How It Works

Every outpost starts with a base crafting level of 1. Building a Workbench Upgrade increases the crafting level by 1, up to a maximum of 4 (base level 1 + three upgrades). Crafting recipes are gated by upgrade tier — for example, a recipe requiring Tier 3 cannot be crafted until the outpost has both the Power Generator (Tier 2) and Auto-Lathe (Tier 3) upgrades built.

Upgrades apply globally to the outpost — once built, all workbenches in that outpost benefit from the increased crafting tier. They do not need to be built near a specific workbench.

Requirements

  • The outpost must already have at least one functional workbench (General, Gunsmith, Ammo Press, Chemical Station, or Garage)
  • All upgrades are constructed through the Building system at the outpost terminal
  • Only outpost members can build upgrades

Crafting Tier Examples

Recipes scale with upgrade tier. For example, at the General Workbench:

  • Tier 1 (no upgrade): Leather Jacket, Cured Leather Armor
  • Tier 2 (Power Generator): Metal Armor, Leather Armor Mk II
  • Tier 3 (Auto-Lathe): Tesla Armor, Metal Armor Mk II
  • Tier 4 (Sierra Uplink): Combat Armor

Higher-tier recipes typically produce more powerful equipment and require rarer ingredients.
