Overview

A Town Raid is a player-initiated assault on a town's treasury. Using a specialized tool called the Vault Buster, a player can attempt to crack open the town's heavily fortified vault door and plunder the accumulated wealth inside. The raid triggers a town-wide panic — guards mobilize to defend the treasury while civilians flee to safety. The raider must fend off the militia for the full duration of the cracking process. Succeeding not only yields the treasury's contents but also undermines the controlling faction's grip on the town.

How the Treasury Works

Towns with treasuries accumulate wealth over time. As long as the treasury doors remain sealed, the town's prosperity grows, increasing the Treasury Level up to a limit. Each time the treasury increases, more loot is placed inside its vault containers. A higher Treasury Level means a richer vault — but also a bigger blow to the town's stability if it gets raided.

While a raid is in progress, the town's world map status displays: Someone is raiding town treasury.

How to Start a Raid

  1. Obtain a Vault Buster — breaching device that can be found as loot or crafted.
  2. Travel to a live town that has a Treasury Door — a massive bank-style vault door, typically located in a secure building.
  3. Use the Vault Buster on the Treasury Door to begin the cracking process.

The raid cannot be started if:

  • A Town Control event is currently active in that town.
  • Another raid is already underway anywhere.

Once initiated, the Vault Buster is consumed and the raid countdown begins.

During the Raid

Once the Vault Buster is activated, the town erupts into chaos:

  • Town Guards become hostile and actively attack the raider. They will also attempt to reach the Treasury Door to disable the Vault Buster.
  • Town Citizens and Wanderers flee and hide, clearing the streets.
  • A 12-minute timer begins. A global countdown message is broadcast so all players know the raid is happening.
  • The controlling faction receives a notification that their treasury is under attack.

The raider's objective is to survive and defend the Treasury Door for the full 12 minutes. If a Town Guard manages to interact with the door before the timer expires, the raid is foiled.

Raid Success

If the timer runs out without the militia interrupting:

  • Treasury Doors in the town swing open automatically.
  • The town's Treasury Level is reduced to zero — all accumulated wealth becomes accessible.
  • The controlling faction's Town Support drops by an amount equal to the Treasury Level that was lost. A higher-level treasury means a more devastating hit to the faction's hold on the town.
  • A server-wide message announces: "Town Treasury was cracked open."
  • The doors remain open for 12 minutes before automatically closing again, giving the raider and any allies time to loot the vault.

Raid Failure

If all raiders are eliminated or the militia reaches the Treasury Door:

  • The raid timer is cancelled.
  • The Treasury Door remains sealed.
  • A global message announces: "Militia disabled Vault Buster."
  • The Vault Buster is still consumed — there is no refund.

Rewards

The treasury vault contains loot that has accumulated from the town's prosperity growth. The contents scale with the Treasury Level that was built up before the raid — a fully stocked treasury yields substantially more than a freshly spawned one. Loot typically includes valuable items, resources, and currency appropriate to the town's wealth tier.

Additionally, each successful raid counts toward the VaultBuster achievement.
