CriticalHit
Critical Hit
A critical hit is a hit that turn into critical. Critical hit deals additional damage and may inflict extra effects depending on the target's hit location.
For burst attacks, each bullet rolls independently to determine whether it becomes a critical hit. For area-of-effect attacks, a separate critical hit roll is made for each affected target.
The chance to critically hit is calculated as follows:
Critical Chance = Total Critical Chance Bonuses − Target Critical Resistance
Bonuses from perks, traits, aimed shots, equipment, and other sources are combined first. The target's Critical Resistance value is then subtracted to determine the final chance.
Aimed Shots
Aimed shots increase both the chance to score a critical hit and the amount of damage dealt when a critical hit occurs.
| Hit Location | Critical Chance Bonus | Damage Multiplier % | Critical Damage Multiplier % |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eyes | 30 | 30 | 80 |
| Head | 20 | 20 | 55 |
| Groin | 15 | 20 | 55 |
| Legs | 10 | 10 | 30 |
| Arms | 10 | 10 | 30 |
| Torso / Unaimed | 0 | 0 | 25 |
Critical Damage
Critical damage multipliers are applied to the attack's final damage. As a result, increasing weapon damage through perks, traits, weapon upgrades, or better equipment significantly improves critical hit damage.
Critical Roll
After a critical hit is scored, the game performs a Critical Roll to determine whether an additional effect is applied.
The base roll ranges from 0 to 100. Bonuses to Critical Roll increase only the minimum possible roll, reducing the range of low outcomes. Since all critical effects begin at roll 71 or higher, increasing Critical Roll bonuses greatly increases the chance of triggering critical effects.
See the Critical Roll Table for a complete list of possible outcomes.
Different hit locations have access to different effects, creating tactical reasons to target specific body parts. The most common effects are Knockdown and Knockout, but crippling limbs or forcing opponents to drop their weapon can be equally powerful in the right situation.
If a critical hit results in a roll of 100, the target's armor is completely ignored for that attack, often resulting in extremely high damage.
Critical Effects
Blinded
Reduces the target's maximum vision range to 10 hexes.
Knockdown
Knocks the target to the ground, briefly interrupting movement and actions.
Knockout
Causes the target to become unconscious for a period of time.
The duration is reduced by 50% when using Trait Quick Recovery.
Cripple Leg
Cripples one of the target's legs.
A character with a crippled leg cannot run.
This effect can be resisted by Perk Unbreakable.
Cripple Arm
Cripples one of the target's arms.
A crippled arm prevents the use of two-handed weapons. If both arms become crippled, the target cannot attack at all.
This effect can be resisted by Perk Unbreakable.
Weapon Drop
Forces the target to drop the weapon currently being held.
Random Cripple
Randomly cripples one of the following body parts:
- Left Arm
- Right Arm
- Left Leg
- Right Leg
Bleeding
Applies the Bleeding status effect to the target.
See Bleeding for details.
