Overview

Drugs and consumables provide temporary stat boosts, instant healing, or removal of negative status effects. Most timed drugs last 30 minutes and share cooldown groups — using a different drug does not stack with others in the same group, but drugs from different groups can be active simultaneously. Effects can be amplified by the Drug Potency stat and extended by the Drug Length stat.

Cooldown Groups

Using a drug starts its cooldown — while the cooldown is active, the drug's effects are applied. Using the same drug again while its cooldown is active is blocked. Different drugs within the same group share a cooldown, meaning you cannot stack Beer and Booze, for example.

Timed Drugs (Duration-Based)

These drugs apply their effects for the full duration of the cooldown. Effects are amplified by the Drug Potency stat and duration is extended by the Drug Length stat.

Instant Drugs (Immediate Effect)

These drugs apply their effect instantly and are not subject to Drug Potency or Drug Length. Some have a short cooldown before they can be used again.

How Drug Effects Work

Drug Potency

The Drug Potency stat increases the magnitude of all timed drug effects by a percentage. For example, with 10 Drug Potency, Buffout's +15 Critical Resistance becomes +16. Instant drugs like Stimpaks are not affected.

Drug Length

The Drug Length stat extends the duration of timed drugs by a percentage. With 20 Drug Length, a 30-minute drug lasts 36 minutes. This does not affect instant drugs.

Stacking

Drugs from different cooldown groups can be active at the same time. For example, you can have Beer (Alcohol), Buffout, and Jet all active simultaneously. However, you cannot stack two drugs from the same group — using Beer while Booze is already active is blocked until the alcohol cooldown expires.

Resetting Drug Effects

Antitoxin

Antitoxin instantly clears all active drug effects and resets their cooldowns. It removes effects from the following groups: Alcohol, Food, Cola, Cigarettes, Buffout, Jet, Psycho, Mentats, Rad-X, and Cookie. Antitoxin does not clear Stealth Boy or Skill Book effects.

Natural Expiry

Drug effects end automatically when their cooldown timer expires. Timed cooldowns (such as drug groups) refresh when the drug is used again — they do not stack duration.
