Overview
Every player in FOnline2 belongs to one of three playable races: Human, Ghoul, or Super Mutant. Your race is chosen during character creation and shapes your character's strengths and weaknesses. Each race has distinct stat modifiers that affect combat performance, survivability, and utility. It is possible to change your race later through the use of rare FEV,
Beyond the three playable races, the wasteland is home to many other creature types — dogs, deathclaws, robots, geckos, and more — which appear as NPCs, enemies, and potential companions.
Playable Races
Human
The baseline race of the wasteland. Humans have no inherent modifiers — they are the standard by which all other races are measured. Both male and female characters are available. Humans can wear any armor and wield any weapon without restriction.
Ghoul
Ghouls are survivors of extreme radiation exposure, their bodies ravaged but their minds intact. They trade raw durability for enhanced action economy and regeneration.
- +10% Action Point bonus when attacking — Ghouls can squeeze out more attacks before running out of AP.
- +20% Action Point bonus when using items — Reloading, healing, and inventory actions cost less AP.
- −25 Maximum Health — Ghouls are frailer than Humans and must rely on positioning and quick kills.
- Faster health regeneration — Ghouls recover HP more rapidly between fights.
- +30% Radiation Resistance — Ghouls are highly resistant to environmental radiation and irradiated zones.
Super Mutant
Super Mutants are hulking brutes created by the Forced Evolutionary Virus, taller and stronger than ordinary humans. Their massive frames make them walking tanks at the cost of mobility.
- −20% Run Speed — Super Mutants move slower on the battlefield.
- +100 Maximum Health — Substantially more durable than other races, making them excellent front-line fighters.
- +10% Close Combat damage — Super Mutants hit harder in melee.
- +50 lbs Carry Weight — Super Mutants can haul more gear, loot, and supplies.
- +20% Knockdown/Knockback Resistance — Their sheer mass makes them harder to knock around.
- +15% Radiation Resistance — Moderate protection against radiation.
Equipment Restrictions for Super Mutants
Super Mutants cannot equip standard armor or weapons. Only items specifically marked as suitable for Super Mutants (shown with a "Mutant Wear" indicator on the item description) can be wielded or worn. Attempting to equip non-mutant gear will display an error message explaining the restriction.
Changing Your Race (FEV System)
Your race is not permanently locked. Universal Evolutionary Virus (UEV) allows a complete re-creation, including the ability to change your race, origin, and appearance all at once.
Requirements for FEV Use
- You must be in a safe outpost (a base or town area) — FEV cannot be used in dungeons, encounters, or contested territory.
- Using any FEV serum will completely reset your SPECIAL stats, perks, traits, and cosmetic appearance. You will need to rebuild your character from scratch afterward.
Character Creation
When creating a new character, you choose from four race-gender combinations:
- Human Male
- Human Female
- Ghoul
- Super Mutant
Each race-gender combination offers different customization options:
- Skin tone — Multiple skin colors per race.
- Hairstyle — Humans have 10 male and 10 female styles; Ghouls have 3 styles; Super Mutants have 2 mohawk variants.
- Starting clothing — Shirt, pants, and boots in various colors.
You also choose an Origin (Caravan Guard, Raider, Scientist, or Tribal) which determines your starting skill bonuses and is independent of your race.
Related Mechanics
Radiation
Ghouls and Super Mutants have inherent radiation resistance, allowing them to explore highly irradiated zones with less risk than Humans. The wasteland features radiation storms and radioactive locations where this resistance becomes valuable.
Healing
The First Aid and Doctor skills cannot be used on Robots — only living creatures are affected. All three playable races (Human, Ghoul, Super Mutant) can be healed normally with these skills.
Companions
Players can tame certain creatures as companions. Tamable races include: Dogs, Rats, Mole Rats, Brahmin, Radscorpions, Geckos, and Mantises. Deathclaws, Aliens, Floaters, and Centaurs cannot be tamed.
