Vault 15

Vault 15 is one of the easiest public dungeons in the game in terms of enemy difficulty. The main hostile NPCs are rats of various types. While the low difficulty makes it beginner-friendly, the loot quality is also relatively low.

The location consists of four maps: a surface area and three vault levels.

The surface is a small settlement of survivors who were forced to abandon the vault after it became infested with rats. An elevated mountain area above the settlement can be used as an alternative exit route.

The vault levels are filled with rats and contain a small number of lootable containers. On Level 3 you can find the rat boss Gore, whose defeat contributes toward achievement progress.

Most containers in this location are locked at a very low difficulty (Complexity 10). There are also a few bear traps placed around the forest area to help keep rats away.

There are a couple of simple quests associated with this location:

  • Clear the rats from the house
  • Collect microcircuits for Anderson

Quick Walkthrough

  • Surface: Speak to Anderson to accept quests. Clear nearby rats in the forest and enter the vault.
  • Level 1: Kill rats and collect 10 microcircuits from computers. Return them to Anderson for rewards, then go back inside.
  • Level 2: Clear rats and proceed to Level 3.
  • Level 3: Kill rats and Gore. Open the armory with an electronic lockpick and use dynamite to access additional loot.
  • Level 2: Activate the switch to unlock the secondary exit and leave the location.

Walkthrough

Surface Map

The surface area has three entrances: Top, Main, and Canyon. The Main entrance is the most practical starting point. Speak with Anderson to receive two quests: Rat Invasion and Microcircuits for Anderson.

There is a workbench located in one of the nearby shacks if you need to craft supplies before entering the vault.

There are two cave entrances:

  • One leads to the Vault Level 1 main entrance
  • The other is a shortcut to Level 2, which must first be opened from inside

The mountain area above the settlement provides an alternative route to Level 1. When using the ladder, be careful not to misclick and fall down accidentally.

Rat Invasion

Head toward the abandoned house in the forest area and kill at least five rats to complete the quest. Rats are never ending and does respawn rather quickly.

Microcircuits for Anderson

To complete this quest, you need to collect 10 microcircuits by scavenging old computers inside the vault. Alternatively, if you already have microcircuits, you can turn them in immediately.

Level 1 Map

Your main goal here is to reach the elevator shaft and use a rope to descend to Level 2. There are a few rats along the way and some minor containers to loot.

On the left side of the level, you can also find a ladder leading back to the mountain area on the surface.

Level 2 Map

Upon entering, you will be surrounded by a group of rats from multiple directions. It is best to position yourself in a defensive spot, such as inside a room or deeper within the elevator shaft, to avoid being overwhelmed.

There are a few containers scattered around the rooms, but overall loot is not great.

On the right side of the main hallway, you will find a monitor that can be used to open a shortcut door leading to the canyon exit outside. Activating it will release a Molerat.

After clearing the area, continue downward to Level 3 via the elevator shaft.

Level 3 Map

As with the previous levels, entering this area will trigger attacks from multiple rats. Clear them before proceeding.

This level contains several old computers, making it the great location in the dungeon to gather microcircuits.

In the top-right cavern area, you will find the boss rat Gore along with several bodies to loot. Gore has high health but moves slowly, so it can be safely defeated by keeping distance and kiting.

The armory is located in the middle-right section and requires electronic lockpicks to open. If you completed Anderson’s quest, you should have the required tool.

In the bottom-right corner, there is an unstable wall. Using dynamite will open a hidden area with additional loot. This area has a chance to contain dungeon-specific items such as the Vault Jumpsuit.
