Dismantling
Type System
Location Anywhere (single), outpost bases only (batch)
Requirements Crafted item to dismantle, optional tool for better yields

Overview

Dismantling breaks down craftable items to recover a portion of their crafting ingredients. Any item that has a crafting recipe can be dismantled, returning some of the materials used to make it. Better tools significantly improve material recovery, and batch dismantling allows clearing out an entire inventory or pile of items at once.

How It Works

Single Dismantle

Dismantle one item at a time directly from your inventory. This can be done anywhere — in towns, encounters, or dungeons. The item is destroyed and a random portion of its crafting ingredients are returned.

Batch Dismantle

Batch dismantling processes multiple items in a single operation. It comes in two forms:

  • Dismantle Inventory — breaks down every dismantleable item in your inventory
  • Dismantle Hex — breaks down every dismantleable item on the ground at your current position

Batch dismantling can only be performed inside your outpost base. Items marked as favorites are automatically skipped to prevent accidental loss.

What Cannot Be Dismantled

  • Cars and vehicles
  • Raw resources (scrap, wood, ore, etc.)
  • Items without a crafting recipe
  • Weapons and armor components are never returned — only basic materials

Ammo Recovery

When dismantling a weapon that still contains ammunition, the remaining ammo is ejected and returned to your inventory before the weapon is broken down.

Material Recovery Rates

Dismantling uses the item's crafting recipe to determine which ingredients can be recovered. Up to 4 ingredients from the recipe are rolled individually. Each recovered ingredient returns between 1 and half of the original recipe amount (minimum 1).

The recovery chances depend on the tool equipped:

Tool Slot 1 Slot 2 Slot 3 Slot 4
No tool (bare hands) 44% 28% 8% 1%
Multi-Tool 55% 35% 10% 1%
Super Tool Kit 66% 42% 12% 1%

The tool must be equipped in either your main hand or off-hand slot. Each dismantle operation has a 5% chance to break the tool. If the tool breaks, it is destroyed and dismantling stops.

For example, dismantling a crafted item that took 6 Metal Parts and 2 Steel with a Super Tool Kit gives a 66% chance at 1–3 Metal Parts, a 42% chance at 1 Steel, and small chances at the third and fourth ingredients.

Requirements

  • Item must have a crafting recipe
  • Batch dismantling requires being inside your outpost base
  • Tool (Multi-Tool or Super Tool Kit) is optional but strongly recommended for better yields
