Overview
The implant system allows augmentation of a single SPECIAL stat and enhancement of up to three perk levels through chips. A Neural Interface must be installed first, which unlocks the ability to slot one implant and up to three chips at a MedBay station. All installed items are refunded when removed, so experimenting with different setups has no permanent cost.
Neural Interface
The Neural Interface is the prerequisite for all implant and chip installations. It is a one-time procedure that costs 100,000 caps and does not require carrying a Neural Interface item — the caps are paid directly at the MedBay. Once installed, the Neural Interface is permanent and cannot be removed.
Implants
Implants boost a single SPECIAL stat. They come in three tiers — higher tiers provide a larger stat bonus and more chip slots:

Implants are available for all seven SPECIAL stats: Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck. Tier 3 implants are significantly rarer.
Only one implant can be installed at a time. Installing a new implant automatically removes the previous implant and all installed chips — all items are returned to your inventory, so nothing is lost.
Chips
Chips fit into the implant's slots and each provides +2 levels to a specific perk. The number of available slots depends on the implant tier: a Tier 1 implant accepts 1 chip, while a Tier 3 implant accepts up to 3 chips.

A chip can be removed individually at any time and the chip item is returned to your inventory. Chips cannot stack — each slot must contain a different perk chip.
Using the MedBay
All implant and chip operations must be performed at a MedBay station. You must stand within 7 hexes of the MedBay to interact with it. The MedBay screen shows your current implant and chips, and allows installation or removal.
Installation and Removal
All operations are fully reversible and refund all items:
- Install Neural Interface — costs 100,000 caps, permanent, enables all other operations
- Install Implant — replaces current implant (if any), old implant refunded, all chips refunded
- Install Chip — places chip in chosen slot, replaces existing chip in that slot if present (refunded)
- Remove Implant — removes implant and all chips, everything refunded
- Remove Chip — removes chip from chosen slot, chip refunded, implant stays
