Overview
Vehicles provide faster world map travel, additional storage through the trunk, and transport for party members. Cars can be crafted at a Garage Workbench, bought from NPC traders, or found as rare loot. Each vehicle can be customized with up to three mods, a paint job, a custom label, and an optional PIN lock.
Vehicle Stats
Every vehicle has the following stats that determine its performance:
| Stat | Description |
|---|---|
| Speed | Movement speed on the world map. Higher values mean faster travel across the wasteland. |
| Passability | Off-road capability, shown as a percentage. Determines how well the vehicle handles rough terrain such as mountains and deserts. Low passability cars struggle outside roads. |
| Capacity | Maximum number of passengers the vehicle can carry, including the driver. |
| Tank Volume | Maximum fuel the vehicle can hold. Combined with Fuel Consumption, this determines how far you can travel before refueling. |
| Fuel Consumption | Amount of fuel burned per unit of distance on the world map. Lower is more efficient. |
| Fuel Type | What the vehicle accepts for refueling — either Rot Gut (Alcohol) or Micro Fusion Cells. |
| Trunk Size | Storage capacity of the trunk. Each unit represents one item slot worth of space. |

How It Works
Driving
To drive a car, interact with it on the map and select the drive option. If the car belongs to you, you will mount it and transition to the world map. While driving, the car occupies your vehicle slot. Cars cannot be driven while in combat or during a transfer cooldown.
Cars are taken to the world map by the driver — if a party is travelling together, the driver's car carries the group.
Entering Maps
When entering a location while driving, the car attempts to park at a Car Parking Spot if one is available. These can be built at outposts. If no parking spot is free, the car uses the nearest entrance. Some areas (dungeons, event maps) do not allow vehicle entry at all — attempting to enter with a car will be blocked.
Trunk
Each car has a trunk with a storage capacity equal to the vehicle's Trunk Size stat. The trunk can be accessed on foot by interacting with the car, or directly from the world map. Only the owner — or someone with the correct PIN — can open it.
Refueling
Cars consume fuel while travelling on the world map. Two fuel types exist and are accepted based on what vehicle supports:
- Rot Gut (Alcohol) — provides 150 fuel units per bottle
- Micro Fusion Cell — provides 250 fuel units per cell
To refuel, interact with the car and select the refuel option while carrying the appropriate fuel. Refueling can also be done directly from the world map.
Labels
Cars can be given a custom name by the owner, making them easier to identify on the map and in the world map interface.
Lockpicking
Cars can be protected with a 5-digit PIN code set by the owner. If you don't know the code, you can attempt to discover it one digit at a time using the Lockpick skill and electronic lockpicking tools. This allows non-owners to eventually gain access to a locked vehicle by piecing together the full PIN through repeated successful attempts. The pin has 5 digits and is randomly generated from values between 10000 and 99999 when car is created.
How It Works
- Target a locked car. Use the Lockpick skill on any car with electronic lockpicking tools.
- Skill check. Your chance of revealing a digit is determined by your Lockpick skill and Utility Bonus. The formula is straightforward: roughly half your total skill minus a lock difficulty. The success chance ranges is capped at a minimum of 1% to a maximum of 80%.
- Digit recovery. On a successful attempt, one random digit of the 5-digit PIN is revealed (e.g.,
***3*). You may recover the same digit position more than once, so multiple successes are needed to reveal the full code. - Cooldown. Each lockpicking attempt triggers a short cooldown before you can try again, whether you succeed or fail.
- Assemble the PIN. Once you have collected all five digits, you can enter the complete code through the car's drive or trunk access prompt to use the vehicle as if you were the owner.
Modifications
Mod Slots
Each car has three modification slots. Installing a mod consumes the mod item — if a mod is already in that slot, it is returned to your inventory. Mods can also be removed at any time, refunding the item.
Available car mods and which stats they affect:
| Mod | Effect |
|---|---|
| Fuel Tank | Increases Tank Volume |
| Large Fuel Tank | Larger increase to Tank Volume |
| Improved Combustion | Reduces Fuel Consumption |
| Turbo Charger | Increases Speed |
| Offroad Tires | Improves Passability |
| Shock Absorber | Improves Passability |
| Improved Interior | Increases passenger Capacity |
| Storage Box | Increases Trunk Size |
| Large Storage Box | Larger increase to Trunk Size |
| Roof Cargo | Increases Trunk Size |
| Polymer Plating | Improves durability |
| Low Ride Suspension | Lowers ride height |
Paint Jobs
Paint items change the vehicle's appearance. Each paint is specific to a vehicle model. Applying paint consumes the paint item.
Ownership
A car's owner is the player who crafted or purchased it. Only the owner can set the label, change the lock code, install or remove mods, and apply paint.
